Visites d'expositions en anglais

Contemporary culture : the city and its exhibitions

The course centers around a curiosity to know what is happening in contemporary French art, design and architecture in Paris. The relationship between the historical and the new, intensely woven into the fabric of the city, is not only unavoidable but is here sought out to enrich our understanding. The point is not only to question what is considered contemporary, but to search for its origins and reasons of existence and to then take this attitude of observation and critique back into the design atelier.

A series of exhibitions is visited, discussing each exhibition while there and then defining connections between the individual exhibitions at the end of the day. A dialogue between the work seen, the institutions which present it and the society from which it has emerged is developed. Students are asked to participate actively, to voice their observations and opinions and to question those of others.

Somewhat half the students are usually international to ensure a rich dialogue on what French and contemporary are. The course is conducted in English (with minor accents in German and French) and consists of ten meetings of three hours each.
