Background
An auto rickshaw is a vehicle for hire that is one of the chief modes of transport in India as well as Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Sudan, and is popular in many other countries. It is a motorized version of the traditional rickshaw, a small two- or three-wheeled cart pulled by a person \and the velotaxi. The auto rickshaw is also related to its Thai, Lao, Cambodian cousins, the tuk-tuk and the Bajaj in Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
The concern for ecological transport systems is now a political issue all over the world. Here are some facts to consider:
- Fuel efficiency and pollution are linked to a good power to weight ratio.- LIGHTNESS is essential to producing less vehicle pollution and the small sized Rickshaw could be an interesting alternative to the common car Taxi.
- A SOLAR ENERGY Rickshaw is under trial with the Collinda vehicle tested in Rajasthan under the supervision of the Rajasthan minister of energy.
Top speed recorded was 40 km per hour and at normal road speed in cities of 20 kph, 400 Watts was needed which was far less than the power from the BP solar panels of 850 Watts.
- The new Indian non-polluting Rickshaw could inspire the PARIS transport system towards a policy of sustainable development. Parisian politicians are now setting goals for the years 2020 and the idea is to propose a viable scenario and show the benefit of your concept
Deliverables :
minimum: 1 mood board, sketches, 1 rendering and sketch model
Briefing and requirements :
To design a vehicle for Paris 2020 inspired by Indian Auto Rickshaw keeping its friendly appeal together with a Parisian touch. The spiritual successor of the rickshaw should be minimalist, lightweight, use interesting materials and provide one key feature or benefit for the user.
Materials and construction methods should be appropriate for low volume, cost effective production. Find an interesting icon and scenario to illustrate your concept. Design proposals must be innovative, fresh and charming for the passengers as well as for the driver.
