Images is a field in two different senses. First of all as a means of representation which is currently dominant, and consequently a key element in the designer’s means of expression.
Secondly as a field of design since the production of images has become one of the sectors of industrial design. Digital technology and the new technologies of communication offer have opened up new horizons for the profession. There are no objects which are not at the same time an image nor images which are not industrial objects. Even art, since Andy Warhol, is questioned by reproducibility and the process of design which brings the artist’s studio and the designer’s workshop closer together. The field of Images is therefore an absolute must, and there again it is accessed through discovery and acquisition of a culture of image, from the wall paintings of Lascaux to virtual screens, through painting, photography, cinema, graphics and video. Culture and technical know-how, proficiency with tools: pencils, brushes, scissors, glue, camera, film/TV/Video camera, and software. All this is included in courses in the field of Images.
