Art and Sound design Creative Studio

Aim

The Sound Creative Studio will introduce students to the discovery and practise of making sounds and sound objects. Before imagining a change to the sound environment in which one lives, you need to listen, compare, distinguish, question, research and better understand the connections and relationships which link sound waves to the world. The course will unravel the basics of acoustics and psychoacoustics, musical currents and forms of art born of sound recordings. The practice of sound pick-up along with tools and methods for creation offered by the electro acoustic studio will enable students to build sound constructions with different forms and aims, from gramophone recording to fading sound, from narration to fiction, from sketch book to log book or model, from the word to music. Students will make sound objects and recordings, imagine new habits for the ears. Audiovisual objects and interactive sound installations will also be studied.

Programme

This Creative studio proposes an introduction to sound creation in its different forms with practical exercises. Each term will offer a specific project framework: selected theme, methodology and tools. Each student will make a sound creation or object and work on an electro acoustic performance, installation, etc.

The features of the Creative Studio are:

  • the need to finish the sound project in the time given: finished object, creation concluded, pilot, working model, alpha version, etc
  • the freedom to create an industrial or artistic object
  • an expectation of artistic, expressive quality and proficiency in producing the creation
  • the possibility of working alone or in a group, depending on subject and skills.
