A singular school

Born of a political will in 1982, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers is the only national school exclusively dedicated to industrial creation and design. At the time, the idea was to break with academic models by placing creation at the heart of the concerns of industrial production and thus to revive the spirit of the Bauhaus or Black Mountain College.

Near the Place de la Bastille, in the heart of Paris, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers occupies a historic site on the site of the former workshops of the decorator Jansen. The school has kept the spirit of these workshops, while opening up to the most contemporary technologies (digital machines, printers and 3D scanners ...).

A public establishment of an industrial and commercial nature, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers is placed under the double supervision of the Ministries of Culture and Industry and enjoys first-rate national and international recognition and integration. It is ranked second among the schools and universities of Europe and America in the Red Dot Design Ranking 2016.

Two diplomas are offered in initial training: Textile Designer and Industrial Designer, each elevated to the rank of Master. In the field of Continuing Education, the ENSCI provides short training courses and delivers two Specialised Masters, accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles, as well as a post-graduate diploma.

From its origin, the ENSCI-Les Ateliers has set up an innovative pedagogy based on the project and the individualised curriculum, according to an approach centred on the student and his career - contrary to the traditional chronological curricula - where students with very varied profiles are actors in their own training.

At the ENSCI-Les Ateliers, we "learn by doing": we experiment, we proceed by iteration, we handle uncertainties. One learns to manage complexity, to design uses and systems in a socially responsible approach.

This environment for the production and transmission of knowledge remains open 24 hours a day, all year round.

DIVE INTO OUR HISTORY

In 1981, it was through the will of François Mitterrand, then President of the Republic and Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, through the action of Claude Mollard, future Delegate for Plastic Arts and Patrick Bouchain, the architect commissioned to write a report on the teaching of design, that the future École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI-Les Ateliers) was set up.

PUTTING THE WORLD OF BUSINESS AT THE HEART OF ENSCI

Partnership is central to this vocation, because it helps to familiarise students with the world of business and prepare them for professional practice in that world.
